grooming policies
Terms and conditions
To ensure the safety, wellbeing and comfort of every pet we groom, and to provide a safe working environment for our groomers, the following policies apply to all appointments booked with The Groom Edit.
1. Vaccinations
All dogs must be vaccinated to C5 standard. Veterinary proof of current vaccination may be requested prior to your appointment.
The Groom Edit will not groom a dog for at least 48 hours following any vaccination.
2. Flea & Tick Prevention
All dogs must be currently treated with an appropriate flea and tick prevention product. To be effective topical treatments should be applied to your dog at least 48 hours before their appointment.
If live fleas or ticks are discovered during the groom, additional treatment or cleaning charges may apply.
3. Health & Illness
For the health and safety of your dog, our groomers and other clients, please reschedule your appointment if your dog is unwell or has recently experienced:
-
Kennel cough or other contagious respiratory illness
-
Vomiting
-
Diarrhoea
-
Fever or other signs of illness
Dogs displaying signs of illness may be refused service.
The Groom Edit does not groom dogs with open wounds, sores or other conditions that may make grooming unsafe or unsuitable.
4. Pregnancy, Nursing & Dogs in Heat
For the safety and welfare of the dog, The Groom Edit does not groom dogs that are:
-
In heat
-
Pregnant
-
Nursing
Please advise us when booking if any of these circumstances apply.
5. Emergency Veterinary Care
While every reasonable care is taken during your dog's appointment, grooming carries inherent risks.
If your dog experiences a medical emergency while in our care, The Groom Edit reserves the right to transport your dog to the nearest appropriate veterinary hospital for emergency treatment.
Any veterinary consultation, treatment, medication, hospitalisation or other associated veterinary expenses are the responsibility of the dog's owner.
6. Severe Matting
Severe or compacted matting can cause significant discomfort and can conceal underlying skin conditions.
In some circumstances, the safest and most humane option is a complete shave-down rather than attempting to brush or de-mat the coat.
When severely matted coats are removed, underlying skin irritation, redness, bruising, sores, abrasions or other skin conditions may become visible. The Groom Edit is not liable for pre-existing or underlying skin conditions revealed following the removal of severe matting.
Owners acknowledge that removing severe matting can also result in minor skin nicks or irritation despite appropriate professional care.
7. Skin Reactions & Product Sensitivity
The Groom Edit uses professional, high-quality grooming products. However, individual dogs may have sensitivities or allergic reactions to ingredients contained in shampoos, conditioners or other grooming products.
Owners must disclose any known allergies, sensitivities or previous reactions to grooming products before the appointment.
The Groom Edit cannot guarantee that a dog will not experience a skin reaction or irritation.
8. Behaviour, Aggression & Anxiety
Owners must disclose any history of:
-
Biting or attempted biting
-
Aggression
-
Fear or extreme anxiety
-
Previous grooming incidents
-
Behaviour that may pose a risk to the groomer or the dog
The safety of the dog and groomer is our priority.
The Groom Edit reserves the right to use a grooming muzzle where appropriate and safe to do so, or to immediately stop the grooming session if a dog's behaviour presents a safety risk.
If grooming is stopped, the dog will be returned to the owner in its current condition and the appointment may still be charged.
9. Additional Grooming Time & Equipment
Additional charges may apply where a dog's behaviour, coat condition, size or other circumstances require:
-
Additional grooming time
-
Specialised equipment
-
Additional handling
-
Additional cleaning or preparation
Any additional charges will be discussed with the owner where reasonably possible before being incurred.
10. Sedatives & Calming Medication
The Groom Edit does not groom dogs that have been given sedatives or calming medication prior to their appointment, unless this has been specifically discussed and agreed upon with The Groom Edit in advance.
Owners must disclose any medication administered to their dog before grooming.
11. Cancellations & Rescheduling
The Groom Edit operates a 48-hour cancellation policy.
Appointments cancelled or rescheduled with less than 48 hours' notice will incur a $50 late cancellation fee.
The cancellation fee will be charged to the credit card provided at the time of booking.
We understand that genuine emergencies can occur and will consider exceptional circumstances at our discretion.
12. Payment & Credit Card Authorisation
A valid credit card is required when booking an appointment.
Your card details are securely retained by our booking/payment system and your card will be charged on completion of your dog's groom.
Any applicable additional charges, cancellation fees or other authorised fees may also be charged to the card provided.
13. Arrival & Access
You will receive an automated text message when The Groom Edit is on its way to your property.
The owner, or an authorised person, must be available when we arrive unless an alternative arrangement has been agreed upon in advance.
If nobody is available when we arrive, The Groom Edit will wait for a maximum of 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes, we reserve the right to depart and a $50 travel fee will be charged to the credit card provided at booking to cover fuel and lost appointment time.
14. Suitable Parking
As The Groom Edit is a mobile grooming service, the owner is responsible for ensuring that suitable and safe parking is available for the grooming vehicle prior to our arrival.
Parking must remain available for the entire duration of the appointment.
The grooming vehicle must be able to safely access and remain at the property without obstruction.
If suitable parking is unavailable and the appointment cannot safely proceed, The Groom Edit reserves the right to cancel the appointment and applicable travel or cancellation fees may apply.
15. Accurate Dog Information at Booking
Owners are responsible for providing accurate information when booking, including their dog's:
-
Breed or breed type
-
Size
-
Approximate weight
-
Coat condition
-
Behavioural characteristics
-
Grooming requirements
Accurate information allows us to allocate sufficient time and ensure that our vehicle and equipment are suitable for your dog.
If, upon arrival, your dog is substantially larger or requires significantly more time or equipment than was booked, The Groom Edit reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the appointment due to scheduling or equipment constraints.
Where the appointment cannot proceed for this reason, a $50 travel fee will be charged to the credit card provided to cover fuel and lost time.
16. Safety First
The Groom Edit reserves the right to refuse or discontinue a grooming service where, in our reasonable judgement, continuing would present a risk to:
-
The health or welfare of the dog
-
The safety of the groomer
-
The safety of the owner or other people
-
The safety of other animals
-
Our grooming equipment or vehicle
Our priority is always to provide a safe, professional and positive grooming experience for every dog.
Acceptance of Policies
By booking an appointment with The Groom Edit, the owner acknowledges that they have read, understood and agreed to these Grooming Policies & Terms and Conditions.
The owner confirms that all information provided about their dog is accurate and agrees to notify The Groom Edit of any changes to their dog's health, behaviour, medication or grooming requirements before each appointment.
