Frequently Asked Questions
Before Your Appointment
What breeds do you groom?
We welcome a wide range of breeds, from small companion breeds to larger dogs. Every groom is tailored to your dog’s breed, coat type, condition, lifestyle and individual needs.
Do you groom puppies?
Yes! We welcome puppies and recommend introducing them to grooming gradually from an early age. Puppy appointments are designed to help create positive grooming experiences and build confidence with bathing, drying, brushing, handling and grooming equipment.
Do you groom senior dogs?
Yes. Senior dogs are welcome, provided they are fit enough to safely undergo grooming. We take extra care with older dogs and can adapt the grooming process where appropriate.
Can you groom nervous or anxious dogs?
Absolutely. We understand that every dog has their own personality and comfort level. We take a calm, patient approach and work at a pace that prioritises your dog’s wellbeing and safety.
For dogs with significant behavioural or handling concerns, please let us know when booking so we can discuss whether The Groom Edit is the right service for your dog.
Can I request a particular haircut or style?
Absolutely. We’re happy to discuss your preferred look and what will work best for your dog’s coat. Photos are always welcome as a reference, although the final groom may need to be adjusted according to your dog’s coat condition, texture and structure.
Can you groom my dog shorter in summer?
Yes. We can discuss a shorter, practical style that suits your dog’s coat and lifestyle. The appropriate length will depend on your individual dog and their coat condition.
How often should my dog be groomed?
This depends on your dog’s breed, coat type, lifestyle and preferred length. Many regularly groomed dogs benefit from appointments every 4–8 weeks, while some coats require more frequent maintenance.
We can recommend a grooming schedule specifically for your dog.
The Grooming Experience
What happens during a grooming appointment?
Your dog will receive a personalised grooming experience that may include bathing, blow-drying, brushing, clipping or scissoring, nail trimming, ear cleaning and finishing touches, depending on the service booked.
How long does a grooming appointment take?
Every dog is different, so appointment times can vary depending on breed, coat condition, size, temperament and the service selected. As a guide, most full grooms take approximately 1.5–3 hours.
Will my dog be groomed in the van?
Yes. Your dog will be professionally groomed inside The Groom Edit’s fully equipped mobile salon, which comes directly to your home.
Do I need to stay home during the appointment?
We recommend being available at the beginning of the appointment for your dog’s handover and consultation. Once your dog is settled, you may be able to continue with your day while we take care of the grooming.
Can you groom a dog that doesn't like dryers?
Yes, where it is safe to do so. We can take a gradual and patient approach to drying, although some level of drying is necessary for many grooming services. Severe dryer sensitivity may affect the final result or the services we can safely provide.
What if my dog is difficult to groom?
Dogs can become nervous, restless or uncomfortable during grooming for many reasons. We will always work patiently and safely within your dog’s tolerance. If a particular procedure cannot be completed safely, we may need to modify or stop the service.
Do you offer deshedding?
Yes. Deshedding can be incorporated into selected grooming services where appropriate for your dog’s coat type. We’ll recommend the most suitable approach during your appointment.
Can you trim my dog’s nails without a full groom?
Nail trims may be available as an additional service, subject to availability and suitability. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
Do you groom dogs from multi-dog households?
Yes. Where practical, multiple dogs can be groomed during the same visit. Please let us know how many dogs you have when booking so we can allow sufficient time.
Health + Safety
Does my dog need to be vaccinated?
Yes. All dogs must be vaccinated to the required C5 vaccination standard, and veterinary proof may be requested.
How long after vaccination can my dog be groomed?
The Groom Edit is unable to groom your dog until at least 48 hours after vaccination.
Does my dog need flea and tick treatment?
Yes. All dogs must be appropriately treated for fleas and ticks at least 48 hours prior to their appointment.
Can you groom my dog if they have fleas or ticks?
For the health and safety of other pets and our grooming environment, dogs must arrive free from active flea and tick infestations. If live fleas or ticks are found, grooming may need to be stopped or postponed and additional charges may apply.
What if my dog has a matted coat?
Severe matting can be uncomfortable and may require clipping rather than brushing out. Our priority is always your dog’s comfort and welfare. If your dog is heavily matted, we will discuss the safest grooming option with you before proceeding.
What if my dog has a medical condition?
Please tell us about any relevant medical conditions, injuries, allergies, medications or physical limitations when booking. This allows us to determine whether any adjustments are needed to make the grooming experience as safe and comfortable as possible.
What if my dog becomes unwell before their appointment?
Please contact us as soon as possible if your dog becomes unwell, develops a contagious condition or has any other health concern. For the wellbeing of your dog and others, we may recommend postponing the appointment.
What happens if my dog has an emergency during their appointment?
Your dog’s safety is our highest priority. If an emergency occurs while your dog is in our care, we will take appropriate immediate action and contact you. Where veterinary attention is required, your nominated veterinarian or the nearest appropriate veterinary hospital may be contacted.
What if my dog bites or displays aggressive behaviour?
Please be completely honest with us about any previous biting, snapping or aggressive behaviour when booking. This information helps us prepare appropriately and keep both your dog and our groomer safe.
The Groom Edit reserves the right to discontinue a grooming service if a dog presents an unacceptable safety risk.

How do I book an appointment?
Appointments can be booked through our online booking system or by contacting The Groom Edit directly.
Do you require a deposit?
A deposit may be required to secure your appointment. Any applicable deposit, cancellation and rescheduling conditions will be provided at the time of booking.
What is your cancellation policy?
We understand that things happen. However, appointments are reserved specifically for your dog, so cancellations and rescheduling require notice. Please refer to our Policies for the required notice period and applicable fees.
What should I do before my dog’s appointment?
Please ensure your dog has had the opportunity to toilet before their appointment and is ready at the agreed time. If your dog has any specific behavioural, medical or grooming concerns, please let us know beforehand.
Can my dog have breakfast before grooming?
Yes, although we generally recommend avoiding a large meal immediately before grooming. If your dog is prone to motion sickness, anxiety or an upset stomach, please discuss their feeding routine with your veterinarian.
What if I'm running late?
Please contact us as soon as possible. As a mobile service, our appointments are carefully scheduled throughout the day, so significant delays may affect the time available for your dog’s appointment or require the appointment to be rescheduled.
What happens if my dog is not ready when you arrive?
Please have your dog ready at the agreed appointment time. Delays can affect subsequent appointments, so additional waiting time may incur a fee or, in some circumstances, the appointment may need to be rescheduled.
Why choose mobile grooming?
Mobile grooming provides a more private and convenient experience for both you and your dog. There are no busy salon waiting areas, unnecessary travel or extended periods spent away from home. Your dog receives one-on-one attention in a dedicated grooming environment right outside your door.
